Aemero Aweke, Northern Ethiopia Organizer and National Council member of the Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ), said three members of the Party that have been distributing flyers about the upcoming peaceful demonstration, have been detained in Abraha Jira, Western Armachiho. As part of its three month popular movement in Ethiopia, UDJ had called its first public demonstration in Gonder town, Northern Ethiopia to be held on July 6, 2013.
The promotion of the demonstration is however underway in most towns of Gonder, he said.

The demonstration will start at 9am outside the office UDJ’s Gonder Branch office and will be completed with a program at the Meskel Square. The leaders of the Party are expected to speak regarding the aim of the demonstration to the public.
Aemero said that they have sent a letter to the Mayor’s office and also confirmed that it has reached him. It was earlier reported that although they had sent letters to the Zonal police, administrator and Mayor of the Town informing them that they are organizing the demonstration, all had accepted the letter but the Mayor’s office.
